Frequently asked questions about Birth photography.

01. Why hire a birth photographer ?

By hiring a professional birth photographer to document your birth story, your partner can focus entirely on being there with you and for you, and witness the moment your baby enters this world.

As a professional Certified Birth Photographer I have invested in the photography equipment that is suitable for many different settings and lighting situations. And I have spent many hours studying and practising to have the knowledge of how to correctly use my gear and navigate changing lighting and scenes.

I can anticipate when a moment is coming that you will want to remember, and I will focus on capturing those moments for you in authentic and tasteful images. These images will evoke very strong emotions and fill in gaps of your birth journey that you may have forgotten. Birth images can be both very powerful and healing for clients.

02. How many births do you book per month ?

At the moment I am only booking one birth story per month. I am on call 24/7 from 38 weeks gestation through to 42 weeks gestation which is a big commitment and I want to focus on one birthing family at a time. I do not currently have a back up photographer to help me out if i did have two birthing mothers at the same time. I want to do my best at not letting down any of my birthing families.

03. When will you arrive at my birth space ?

I will arrive at your birth space when you are in active labour. This is decided by either your contractions, when they are set into regular time patterns or around 5-6 centimetres dilated. Communication is very important before and during your labour to ensure I come at the right time, but it is ultimately your decision when you want me to arrive. When you want me there, I will be there.

04. How long do you stay ?

I will stay between 1-2 hours postpartum. If you have other requirements let me know and we can add further coverage to your package.

05. What if you miss the birth ?

Birth can be very unpredictable, and I will make every effort to be there to capture your baby’s birth story. But in the unlikely event that I do miss your birth, I will capture the first few hours of postpartum and return the next day if we need more images to complete your package.

06. Do you share every birth on social media ?

As much as I love to share my work I will only share images that have been approved by my clients. I totally respect and honour my clients requests for privacy. During our personal consultation we will discuss exactly what you do or don’t want shared.
